Bill discrepancies are used to detect billing errors in utility bills (normally cost). Bill discrepancies are detected using 3 methods, with each getting a score from 0-12 points, the higher the points, the more confident the system is that there may be a bill discrepancy. The point breakdown is as follows (see below for details): 2 points for passing the method test, 1 point if there are no data integrity issues (missing data) with the bill itself, and a final 1 point if there are no data integrity issues in the bills used for the method test.
Each method compares the cost per consumption unit of the bill in question to a test case from other bills associated with that building.
Method 1 – Bill from the same time the previous year
Method 2 – Nearest 6 bills (3 forward, 3 backward if possible)
Method 3 – Bill with the closest consumption value to the bill in question
